McIntyre Masonry received a call from a homeowner requesting assistance with her problem basement.
Whilst surveying the basement, we found it very difficult to come up with an argument to keep any of the original paving or carved gutter course as the stone was damaged and deteriorated so badly water was puddling and run offs no longer effective.
The basement walls suffered from years of water retention and the decay arising from that. Basement steps also deteriorated from puddling water.
The decision was made to replace the basement paving with a like for like original stone with carved gutters. The basement walls pointing in hot lime to best help the soaking walls release moisture and we also replaced rubble walling and supplied new steps to the basement openings.
This work was carried out in winter and at times we had to work through extreme temperatures. We have carried out 12- and 24-month assessments to monitor the materials we used. The photos were taken 24 months after work complete.
