Our Current Fife Stomasonry Projects
Beamer Rock Lightouse,
Beamer Rock Light House was built in 1826 and was presumably intended as a day mark at first. However, the 6-metre high tower also functioned as a form of protection for mariners for about 186 years, guarding the entrance to Rosyth dockyard and inner forth and had also become an important landmark in the southern part of Queensferry.
After being in service for more than a century, Beamer Rock Light house had to be removed in 2011 to make way for the replacement crossing, now called Queensferry Crossing. McIntyre Masonry was commissioned to handle the work of dismantling the lighthouse. Our team of professional stonemasons took great care in handling the project, planning with conservators to ensure that no damage was inflicted to the structure. We used a barge equipped with a crane for the safety removal of the lighthouse and it was transported for storage until a permanent siting for the Beamer Rock Lighthouse is found.
Residential Work in Fife
McIntyre Masonry also tackled a number of residential projects in the area of Fife. One of the most recent projects we have accomplished involved a chimney rebuild in Dunfermline. As the original chimney was in a state of disrepair and can no longer be used, the client decided to have a new masonry chimney be built from the ground up.
We stripped down the existing chimney and salvaged stones that were still in good shape. Our stonemasons then hand dressed new stones to match the existing pieces and rebuilt the chimney in lime mortar using the combination of new and salvaged stones. After the chimney was put in place and the scaffold was removed, we reinstated the lead work and replaced damaged slates on the roof.
